U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday responded on a deadly shooting involving an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis, Minnesota, describing the incident as deeply troubling.
In a statement shared after reviewing video footage, Trump said the agent appeared to have acted in self-defense during a chaotic encounter.
He noted that the officer was struck by a vehicle during the incident and sustained serious injuries. 
The agent is currently receiving medical care and is said to be recovering.
Calling the footage “difficult to watch,” the president emphasized that the full circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under review.
Trump also expressed concern about rising tensions surrounding immigration enforcement, highlighting the increasing risks faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty.
In a separate statement, the White House said it stands with ICE agents and law enforcement personnel, acknowledging the challenges and dangers they face while carrying out their responsibilities.
Officials reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to public safety and urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue.
