Trump Board of Peace Gaza is a new proposal announced by U.S. President Donald Trump to oversee the transition and rebuilding of the Gaza Strip after the war. The plan would require countries seeking permanent membership of the board to contribute at least $1bn within its first year.
Countries that want a permanent seat on the Board of Peace would need to pay at least $1 billion within the first year. Countries that do not pay this amount could still join the board, but only for a three-year term.
Member states would serve for not more than three years, unless their term is renewed by the chairman. However, this rule would not apply to countries that contribute more than $1 billion in cash. Trump is expected to be the board’s first chairman.
It is still unclear how the money collected by the board would be used. The Washington Post reported that European leaders are discussing the proposal but remain cautious. One senior European official said there is little interest in funding an organization that may promote a Trump-led global order.
Some officials believe the board could be designed as an alternative to the United Nations, which Trump has often criticized.
Bloomberg also reported that several countries are uneasy about Trump having control over the board’s funds. These concerns have made some nations hesitant to join.
The White House responded by saying the fee shows a strong commitment to peace and stability. A U.S. official said all funds would be used to help rebuild Gaza.
Invitations have been sent to countries including India, Jordan, Türkiye, and Egypt. Some leaders, such as Argentina’s President Javier Milei and Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, have publicly welcomed the invitation.
