Tems Drops Surprise EP ‘Love Is A Kingdom’

Tems drops surprise 7-track EP ‘Love Is A Kingdom’ (Nov 21). Fans rave about the self-produced Afrobeats/R&B project, naming ‘What You Need’ as the standout track.

The unexpected EP “Love Is A Kingdom” by Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems has taken fans by surprise. The project, which was made possible by 93/RCA records, did not excite listeners, who will be waiting impatiently for the Afrobeat superstar’s solo music.

The EP is thematically focused on “Love isn’t just a feeling but a transformative realm”—a space tems“>Tems explores with her signature depth and feeling.

This transitional EP follows tems“>Tems’ highly successful debut album, Born In The Wild, which was released in June 2024. Despite the relatively short period since her last major project, the “Love Is A Kingdom” EP feels like a focused, soulful body of work that explores love in all of its complex and sometimes messy dimensions: power, pain, surrender, and deep self-discovery.

Tems produced the EP herself, demonstrating her development as a producer. To create a distinctive sound, she also included LONDON, AOD, and GuiltyBeatz in the production process.

The EP is a beautiful blend of exuberant Afrobeats rhythms and the atmospheric, faded soundscapes of R&B and Alt-R&B.

tems“>Tems starts the EP off with the self-love anthem ‘First.’ The track hits with a punchy, smooth Afrobeats production, setting a confident tone as tems“>Tems reclaims her personal power and prioritizes her self-worth above all else.

The EP then shifts to the beautiful melodies of “I’m Not Sure,” which uses an atmospheric sheen to capture the essence of her romantic vulnerability and indecision.
