Amid rising public anxiety over school safety, the Plateau State Police Command has stepped in to reassure residents following Friday’s directive by the Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (psubeb“>PSUBEB), which ordered the temporary closure of basic schools across the state over security“>security concerns.
In a statement issued on Saturday by Alfred Alabo, the Police Public Relations Officer, the Command reiterated that the protection of schools and residents remains its top priority.
It described the school closure as a precautionary measure aimed at strengthening security“>security around educational institutions and preventing any potential threats. 
We understand the anxiety this may have caused among parents and stakeholders,” the statement read, assuring that security“>security agencies are working collectively to guarantee peace.
The statement added that Emmanuel Adesina, the Commissioner of Police, has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to intensify efforts to forestall any breakdown of law and order across the state
According to the statement, the Command has already increased patrols around schools, residential areas, and other strategic locations as part of preventive measures.
To reinforce these efforts, the command revealed that its intelligence units are operating round the clock to gather useful information that could help disrupt potential risks.
The Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement or activities to the nearest police formation.
It emphasised that collaboration between security“>security agencies and the public is vital in identifying and neutralising threats before they escalate. The police further appealed for calm, saying all hands are on deck to safeguard the state.
Acknowledging the inconvenience that the temporary closure of schools may pose, the police assured parents and guardians that the move is necessary to protect the well-being of children.
The Command pledged its commitment to restoring normalcy quickly so that academic activities can resume without fear.
The statement also provided emergency contact numbers for residents to reach the Plateau State Police Command Control Room, while reaffirming that the security“>security and stability of Plateau communities remain paramount.
