With rumors surronding the future of coaching in Manchester City, David Ornstein revealed that despite Guardiola being under contract until 2027 it is believed that this is the final season for pep at the club.
It can be recalled that in November 2024 Pep signed a two-year extension contract, but the narrative is about to change due to certain factors.
Ornstein reported revealed that the top figures at the club are lookin to change the narrative to a one year, as the second year is being viwed as a move to buy the club time and deflect media presuure that might turn out as a farewell tour.
The club is now faced with the difficulty of winning matches; the club only won two matches out of the seven they have played. Following a 2–2 draw with Tottenham and a shock 3–1 Champions League loss to Bodø/Glimt, the team currently sits six points behind Arsenal in the Premier League.
Former City assistant Enzo Maresca reportedly informed Chelsea officials before his recent departure that he had been in talks with City about a potential return to replace Pep this summer.
Manchester City is already in the search for new coach as three names have emerged as top runers that will succeed the most successful manager in the clubs history.
Xabi Alonso: Currently the top contender. Despite a brief, difficult stint at Real Madrid, his historic unbeaten Bundesliga run with Bayer Leverkusen makes him the board’s favourite.
Enzo Maresca: A “disciple” of the Guardiola philosophy who already knows the club’s inner workings.
Cesc Fàbregas: The “dark horse” whose stock has soared following his impressive work with Como in Serie A.
The manager has been mindfull of his statement when facing the press. He said recently, telling the press:
“I have a contract. I’ve said it a thousand million times. You are bored of me? I’m pretty sure of that.”
