Nyesom Wike Slams False Health Rumors, Denies Overseas Treatment
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims that he collapsed and was flown abroad for medical treatment. Speaking during an inspection of ongoing projects in Abuja on Thursday, Wike described the rumors as baseless and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.
According to him, mischief-makers are behind the speculation, aiming to distract from the serious allegations made by former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, against suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie.
On March 28, 2025, Nwaeke alleged that he personally witnessed Fubara handing over a bag of money to Ehie, purportedly to facilitate the destruction of the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex. The claim sparked controversy, with both Fubara and Ehie swiftly denying any involvement.
Fubara and Ehie have maintained that Nwaeke’s accusations are false and stem from an altered state of mind. In response, Ehie announced that he had instructed his lawyer to take legal action against Nwaeke for defamation.
Wike emphasized that these distractions should not shift focus from real governance issues, urging Nigerians to be wary of unverified reports. He reaffirmed his commitment to developing the FCT and dismissed any speculation about his health as pure propaganda.
