The National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Kaduna, has announced the release of 13,710 long-pending certificates for graduates of its Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) programmes, ending years of uncertainty for thousands of beneficiaries across the country.
The development was made public in a statement issued on Monday in Kaduna by Yusha’u Ahmed, Head of the Institute’s Public Relations and Protocol Unit. According to the statement, the release follows the resolution of administrative and operational challenges that had delayed the issuance of certificates to affected graduates.
Ahmed stated that the Institute has directed all concerned graduates to visit NTI offices in their respective states with the relevant documents and comply with the approved procedures for the collection of their certificates.
He further disclosed that certificates for the Bachelor Degree Programmes (BDPs) run by the Institute would also be made available for collection from next week, assuring graduates of the Institute’s determination to clear all outstanding academic records.
A detailed breakdown provided by the Academic Records Division of the Registry Department shows that 6,954 PGDE certificates covering the 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 academic sessions, in affiliation with the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), have already been released.
In addition, the Institute released 445 PGDE certificates for programmes run in affiliation with Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, as well as 119 PGDE certificates affiliated with the University of Ilorin.
The statement also confirmed the release of 6,192 NCE certificates for the 2023 academic year, bringing the total number of certificates released to 13,710.
Speaking on the development, the Director and Chief Executive of the National Teachers’ Institute, Prof. Sadiya Sani-Daura, described the release as a major milestone in the Institute’s ongoing efforts to restore confidence among its graduates and stakeholders.
She reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to permanently resolving the issue of delayed certificates, noting that the challenges responsible for the backlog had been thoroughly reviewed and addressed.
According to her, the delays were largely due to administrative bottlenecks, verification processes, and affiliation-related issues, which have now been resolved through institutional reforms and improved coordination with partner universities.
Prof. Sani-Daura emphasised that the National Teachers’ Institute remains steadfast in the discharge of its statutory mandate as a specialised teacher-education institution, established to improve the quality of teaching and learning across Nigeria.
She added that NTI continues to play a critical role in addressing the shortage of qualified teachers in the country through its distance learning programmes, which provide opportunities for working teachers and professionals to upgrade their qualifications without leaving their places of employment.
The Institute also assured students currently enrolled in its programmes, as well as prospective candidates, that measures have been put in place to prevent a recurrence of certificate delays in the future.
Ahmed stated that NTI has renewed its responsibility to deliver quality, accessible and globally competitive education through the adoption of modern instructional technologies and best practices in distance education, comparable to similar institutions around the world.
He noted that the Institute remains committed to transparency, efficiency and professionalism in its academic and administrative operations.
The statement further assured stakeholders, including employers of labour, regulatory bodies and education partners, that the certificates issued by NTI meet all academic and professional standards required for career advancement and further studies.
In conclusion, the National Teachers’ Institute expressed its appreciation to graduates, students and other stakeholders for their patience, understanding and continued support during the period of delay.
