The Nigerian film industry is in deep pain from the sudden loss of Princess Allwell Ademola, a prolific actress, director, and producer who passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2025. News of her death sent shock across social media, with colleagues and fans expressing disbelief over the departure of a woman widely described as the “light” of every film set she graced.
Initial reports suggested the actress was 43, but an official statement released by the Ademola family on Sunday clarified that the “thespian and singer” was 49 years old at the time of her passing.
According to industry sources, she reportedly suffered a sudden heart attack at her residence in Lagos and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was tragically pronounced dead. 
Rotimi Salami, who is a close friend and colleague of the family, shared the family’s statement, which noted:
“From childhood until her passing, she distinguished herself as a thespian, actor, singer, and filmmaker, touching many lives through her art, talent, and unwavering dedication to the creative industry.”
The Nollywood industry have poured out their tribute and dismay, which was led by heavyweights in the Yoruba and English film sectors:
Faithia Williams shared an emotional post on Instagram, writing, “This hit me so bad, Eniobanke.”
Mide Martins described her as “ever playful, joyful, and lively,” mourning the “Black Saturday” that took her friend.
Kate Henshaw offered prayers for her soul, acknowledging her as a deeply respected creative force.
Beyond her cinematic achievements, Allwell Ademola carried a strong story of Nigerian lineage. She was:
- A princess of the Ademola family of Ogun State.
- A great-granddaughter of the Alake of Egbaland.
- The granddaughter of Sir Adetokunbo Ademola, the first indigenous Chief Justice of Nigeria.
Her career, which began as a child actor in 1986 on nta“>NTA, spanned decades and included hits like You or I, Ile Wa, and Moms at War. Her ability to transition between acting, directing, and producing made her a cornerstone of modern Nollywood.
