The Nigerian Army has denied reports claiming that soldiers are planning a mutiny over salaries and allowances. The Army said the reports are false and meant to cause fear and confusion.
In a statement on Monday, the Army spokesperson, Colonel Appolonia Anele, described the reports as misleading and exaggerated. She said they were designed to reduce public trust and threaten national security.
Colonel Anele said there has never been any plan or threat of mutiny in the Nigerian Army. She explained that mutiny is a serious crime under military law and goes against the values of the Army.
She added that Nigerian soldiers remain loyal to the Constitution and to the President, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
The spokesperson said the reports were based on anonymous and unverified sources shared on unofficial platforms. She stressed that such claims do not reflect the views or actions of Army officers and soldiers.
According to her, soldiers are trained to report any complaints through proper military channels, not through the media or social networks.
Colonel Anele explained that promotion increments are only one part of soldiers’ pay. She said it is wrong to present them as the total salary of military personnel.
She noted that military pay also includes basic salaries, rank-based allowances, operational and field allowances, and other benefits depending on duty and location.
The spokesperson said the Army is working with the Federal Government to improve welfare. These efforts include salary reviews, better housing, medical care, insurance, and improved allowances for troops and their families.
She assured Nigerians that the Army remains united, disciplined, and professional. She urged the public to ignore false reports and rely on official Army statements for correct information.
