Kaduna State officials shut down 20 illegal Health Colleges of Sciences and private hospitals on Friday, saying the closures are part of a wider drive to enforce the state’s health regulations.
The health colleges, spread across Chikun, Igabi, Kaduna North, and Kaduna South local government areas, were sealed after inspectors found they were operating without the required licenses and were offering substandard training to students.
The State Commissioner for Health, Umma Kaltum Ahmed, explained that the move is meant to protect the public from unaccredited facilities that could put patients at risk and to ensure that only properly equipped schools are allowed to train the next generation of nurses, midwives, and other caregivers. 
The commissioner added that the government will continue to monitor private health providers and take swift action against any outfit that tries to mislead the public under the guise of medical training.
She urged students and patients to verify the accreditation status of any health‑related institution before enrolling or seeking care, warning that the state will not tolerate shortcuts that compromise safety or quality of service.
The crackdown, she said, reflects Kaduna’s commitment to raising the standard of healthcare across the state.
