The jos“>Jos University Dental Students‘ Association (judensa“>JUDENSA) has lamented the prolonged delay in their academic Journey, revealing that some of its members have spent a decade in school without graduating.
The association described the situation as disheartening and demoralizing, attributing the stagnation to the lack of full accreditation for the institution’s Dentistry programme.
According to judensa“>JUDENSA, despite multiple assurances from the management, the absence of the clinical phase of accreditation has left hundreds of students stranded, unable to progress or begin their professional careers.
The association called on relevant authorities, including the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Federal Ministry of Education, to intervene urgently to prevent further academic and emotional setbacks.
They emphasized that the delay not only affects their future as dental professionals but also undermines Nigeria’s healthcare sector, which continues to face a shortage of skilled dental practitioners.
President of the union Johnson Titus Bisani disclosed this in a press conference in jos“>Jos yesterday.
He said:
“I speak for all dental students at the University of jos“>Jos who have endured 10 years in school, 10 years of prolonged emotional trauma, and a painful and disturbing ordeal.”
He added:
“We are not here to point fingers, but to share our story in the hope of finding understanding, compassion, and real solutions.”
This is about justice for young Nigerians chasing their dreams in dental healthcare, and we appeal to our leaders and well-meaning Nigerians to hear us out and help us move forward, as we have reached our breaking point.
We went through the figure of admissions through JAMB and we finally secured admission to study Dentistry at the University of jos“>Jos in the year 2015. It was meant to be a six-year program.
The University of jos“>Jos has the only dental school in the North Central geopolitical zone of Nigeria. This faculty is vital for training homegrown dentists within the region.
Yet what began as a source of hope has stretched into a decade of frustration, delays, and unfulfilled expectations.
“We raised our concerns through meetings and appeal letters, but responses were limited until after the first major protest that took place on April 25, 2025.”
The union further explained that during its period of agitation, meetings were held with the school management, which, in collaboration with authorities, outlined a timeline projecting that the clinical phase of accreditation would follow within six months of initial approval, paving the way for the pioneer set to sit for their clinical exams and be inducted as dentists by 2025.
