India wins T20 against Australia after a rain washout in Brisbane

India has officially claimed a 2-1 victory in their last five-match T20 series against Australia. The final match scheduled for Saturday in Brisbane was abandoned after a heavy rain with just 4.5 overs, securing India the series win.

Sent in to bat after losing the toss at the Gabba cricket ground, India’s openers started strong. Abhishek Sharma (23 not out) and Shubman Gill (29 not out) had quickly pushed the score to 52 for no loss before a powerful thunderstorm swept across the field, forcing the players to leave.

Gill took the early initiative, hitting six fours in his fast-paced 29 runs. Abhishek was given two early reprieves when he was dropped by Glenn Maxwell and Ben Dwarshuis, capitalizing on the errors to reach an unbeaten 23.

Despite the sellout crowd remaining optimistic for two and a half hours, the stormy weather refused to clear, and the match was officially abandoned.

The series saw high drama, with the opening match in Canberra also washed out. India bounced back from a loss in the second match to win the third T20 in Hobart by five wickets and the fourth match on the Gold Coast by 48 runs.

Abhishek Sharma was named the Player of the Series for his exceptional batting, totaling 163 runs at an impressive average of 40.75.

India captain Suryakumar Yadav praised his team’s depth and fighting spirit: 

“The way everybody chipped in in every game and we came back from being one match down, I think credit goes to all the boys; a complete team effort.”

Australia captain Mitch Marsh gave credit to the winners: 

“I thought all in all it was a good series, two teams really going at it. India won the games when it mattered, so congratulations to them.”

India, currently topping the ICC rankings in the shortest format, will head home with massive confidence and plenty of strong player choices as they prepare to defend their T20 World Cup title early next year.
