Ghana Sacks Coach Otto Addo Before World Cup

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has sent a shockwave through the country’s sports sectors as the national team head coach was officially fired.

In the early hours of Tuesday, Otto Addo, who was the national team head coach, lost his seat with just 2 months left to the World Cup. The painful but decisive decision came after the Black Stars of Ghana suffered a 2-1 loss to Germany during a friendly match.

The defeat suffered by the Ghana national team was recorded as its fourth game the Black Cats of Ghana have lost in a row while preparing for the World Cup warm-up campaign.

Fans and former players were furious about the poor defending and lack of energy on the field. Many people started to worry that the team was not ready to face the best countries in the world.

“The Ghana Football Association has parted ways with the head coach of the senior men’s national team, Otto Addo, effective immediately,” the official statement read.

The football authority thanked the head coach for his efforts and hard work invested in the team and also wished him the best of luck in future endeavours.

The Black Stars’ former head coach Otto Addo had a very mixed record during his second time in charge of the Black Stars. He did a wonderful job guiding the team through the difficult World Cup qualification rounds without losing a game. However, his overall win rate was a low 36% after managing 22 matches since March 2024.

Ghana are now faced with a difficult task ahead of them in the World Cup, as they are tied with great forces in the World Cup group against the likes of England, Croatia, and Panama. They are now left with the task of finding a new coach that will teach the team how to overcome great obstacles in the few weeks left before the World Cup.
