The political season in Adamawa rarely sleeps, and this week it woke up to a claim that spread faster than it could be verified. Word began circulating on social media that Tijjani Ahmed Galadima, one of the more closely watched aspirants for the 2027 Adamawa State governorship under the All Progressives Congress, had quietly stepped away from the race.

His camp did not take long to respond.

John Hamman, Director and Coordinator of the Tijjani Ahmed Galadima Support Groups, issued an official statement dismissing the reports in terms that left little room for ambiguity. He described the viral post as “entirely false, baseless, and a desperate attempt by detractors to weaken the growing momentum” of what the group characterises as a genuine grassroots movement behind the aspirant popularly known as TG-2027.

The denial was firm and came with a pointed message for whoever originated the claim. “Tijjani Ahmed Galadima remains fully committed to the call of the people of Adamawa State,” Hamman said. “His dedication to service is not a rumour. It is a mission to restore the dignity and prosperity of our home state.”

Galadima currently serves as the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, a role his supporters have consistently used to build the case for his candidacy. The PTDF position places him at the centre of Nigeria’s energy sector development architecture, and his camp argues that this kind of national institutional experience is precisely what Adamawa needs in its next governor.

Hamman pointed to what he described as an expanding network of support structures across every local government and ward in the state as evidence that the movement has not slowed. “We see these false reports for what they are,” he said, “a sign that the opposition is intimidated by the overwhelming support Galadima is receiving.”

The denial arrives at a moment when the Adamawa governorship conversation is growing louder and more crowded. Several prominent figures are positioning themselves ahead of APC party primaries, among them Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, widely known as Binani, and former governor Senator Muhammadu Jibrilla Bindow. The field is filling up, and with it, the political noise that typically precedes a serious internal contest.

Recent months have seen youth groups across the state amplify Galadima’s name, with some calling explicitly for a power shift to Adamawa’s central zone and pointing to the PTDF chief as a candidate whose profile matches the moment. His supporters cite his record on youth empowerment, infrastructure thinking, educational advocacy, and peace-building as qualities that distinguish him in an increasingly competitive field.

Hamman closed by directing a message at citizens and volunteers following the race. He urged them to look past the misinformation and remain focused on the task ahead. “Adamawa deserves the best,” he said. “Adamawa deserves Tijjani Ahmed Galadima.”
