Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji, has applauded Nigeria’s judiciary“>judiciary for its “sound and consistent” rulings that continue to shape the nation’s tax“>tax system.
Speaking at a capacity-building workshop for Justices of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, and Judges of the Federal High Court on new tax“>tax laws, the FIRS Chairman, Zacch Adedeji, commended the National Judicial Institute (NJI) for organizing the event, describing it as “timely and essential.”
According to him, the introduction of new tax“>tax laws, including amendments to the Finance Acts, the Petroleum Industry Act, and other subsidiary legislations, has “significantly reshaped our tax“>tax ecosystem.” 
and demands deeper collaboration between the judiciary“>judiciary and tax“>tax authorities.
“The judiciary“>judiciary, through its interpretative powers, remains the ultimate arbiter in maintaining the delicate balance between the legitimate powers of tax“>tax authorities and the rights of taxpayers,” he said.
He stressed that the consistency and clarity of judicial pronouncements on tax“>tax issues have brought greater confidence to taxpayers and investors alike. These decisions, he added, provide the stability and predictability necessary to sustain voluntary tax“>tax compliance, a cornerstone for national development.
The firs“>FIRS boss explained that prompt resolution of tax“>tax disputes is not just a legal necessity but an economic imperative. When courts deliver timely and clear judgments, he said, it builds trust in the system and encourages both individuals and corporations to meet their tax“>tax obligations without fear or uncertainty.
“tax“>Tax disputes that are resolved promptly and based on clear judicial principles foster compliance and contribute to economic stability,” he added.
Beyond the applause, Adedeji reaffirmed FIRS’s commitment to deepening collaboration with the judiciary“>judiciary through continuous knowledge sharing, provision of technical resources, and sustained engagement. According to him, this partnership is critical to building a tax“>tax administration system that is transparent, equitable, and efficient.
“As key stakeholders in the Nigerian tax“>tax system, we must continue to strengthen collaboration, foster dialogue, and develop mechanisms that promote early and effective resolution of tax“>tax disputes,” he emphasised.
