Fintiri Pushes for Mobile Police Base, Counter-Terrorism Unit in Madagali

Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has urged the federal government to establish a mobile police base and counter-terrorism unit in the Madagali Local Government Area. He believes this will help strengthen the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency and improve security in the region.

Governor Fintiri made this appeal on Thursday while welcoming the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, to the Government House in Yola. He assured the police chief of his administration’s unwavering support, pledging continued collaboration through logistics and financial aid to enhance police operations.

According to him, ensuring peace in Adamawa State and Nigeria at large remains a top priority, as reported by The Guardian.

The IGP acknowledged the state’s significant support, emphasizing that Adamawa’s contributions have played a vital role in the police force’s success. He highlighted the strong collaboration between the police and the military, which has led to improved security operations in the region.

Egbetokun stressed the importance of strengthening this partnership to maintain stability and allow residents to enjoy the dividends of democracy. He further assured that his leadership would focus on building police officers’ capacity by equipping them with modern skills and resources. Community engagement, he added, would remain a priority to create a safer environment for the people.

Governor Fintiri’s request for a specialized police presence in Madagali comes amid growing concerns about insurgent activities in the area. Establishing a mobile police base and counter-terrorism unit, he believes, would not only enhance security but also reassure residents of the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
