Chadwick Boseman, star of Black Panther, received an emotional star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday. The late actor’s lasting legacy as a revolutionary hero on screen and a man of immense spirit in life was honored at the ceremony, which took place in the center of Tinseltown.
Boseman received the 2,828th star on the Walk of Fame in the category of motion pictures. The honor comes five years after his death in 2020 at the age of 43, following a private, four-year battle with colon cancer.
The star unveiling was led by Boseman’s widow, Simone Ledward-Boseman, alongside director Ryan Coogler and actress Viola Davis. The ceremony was attended by family, colleagues, including co-stars Viola Davis and Letitia Wright, Disney CEO Bob Iger, and Boseman’s brothers, Kevin and Derrick Boseman.
Simone Ledward-Boseman accepted the award in honor of her late husband, where she delivered a great and heart-touching tribute.
She said: “Today was a beautiful day Everyone was just so full of love and joy. And we’re all so proud of this person that we knew, that we shared.”
As the new beginning was being unveiled, she proceeded to commemorate his lasting presence by placing a pair of his shoes.
Ryan Coogler, who was the director of the hit movie Black Panther, also remembered the late actor as an “incredibly generous” person and also a humble teacher.
Coogler also noted, “Even though he was going through what he was going through, he would do his own stunts, he would be there for off-camera dialogue readings. It was incredible.”
Viola Davis, who was together with him in their last movie, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (2020), described him as a gift that “reminds us that we are less alone.”
She said, “That was Chadwick, more than just an actor who you can observe on screen doing wonderful work.”
Boseman’s influence went well beyond his most well-known performance. He started his career in theater and television, developing his skills under actress Phylicia Rashad at Howard University and then at the British American Drama Academy in London.
His most famous character, T’Challa/Black Panther, was introduced in Captain America: Civil War (2016). Two years later, the standalone Black Panther became a cultural phenomenon, making him the first Black actor to take the lead in the sprawling Marvel franchise.
The 2,828th star, which is situated in front of the Hollywood Experience at 6904 Hollywood Boulevard, honors Boseman’s lasting legacy.
