The media industry has been excited this week after the Presidential Fiscal Policy and tax">Tax Reforms Committee announced an initiative, the Excellence in tax">Tax Reform Reporting Award, designed to reward">reward journalists and inspire balanced reporting on the nation’s ongoing fiscal reforms.
The announcement came on Tuesday through a post on X (formerly Twitter) by the committee’s chairman, Taiwo Oyedele, who described the award as a bold step toward promoting transparency, trust, and accountability in Nigeria’s public discourse on tax">tax reform.
“The Presidential Fiscal Policy and tax">Tax Reforms Committee has unveiled the Excellence in tax">Tax Reform Reporting Award to recognize and reward">reward journalists and online influencers who provide balanced, accurate, and impactful reporting on Nigeria’s ongoing tax">tax reforms,”
Oyedele said.
The competition is open to Nigerian journalists across print, broadcast, and digital media, including bloggers, podcasters, and social media influencers. It’s a recognition that impactful reporting now happens on multiple platforms and that every credible voice counts in shaping national awareness.
Eligible entries must be published between July 1 and December 31, 2025, and can be submitted in English, Pidgin, Hausa, Igbo, or Yoruba, ensuring linguistic inclusivity and nationwide participation.
The committee isn’t just offering recognition; it’s putting a serious reward">reward on the table. The award features a grand prize structure designed to motivate journalists at all levels:
- 1st Prize: ₦10 million
- 2nd Prize: ₦5 million
- 3rd Prize: ₦3 million
- Consolation Prizes: Cash awards for the top 20 finalists
Such generous rewards, Oyedele noted, are meant to
“encourage ethical journalism that informs and empowers citizens while promoting accurate public understanding of Nigeria’s fiscal journey.”
Entries will be judged based on accuracy, balance, clarity, creativity, and public engagement, ensuring that winners represent the best of Nigerian journalism.
Applications officially open through the committee’s online portal, fiscalreforms.ng, and will remain active until December 31, 2025. Participants are expected to submit original reports or digital content that explore Nigeria’s ongoing tax">tax and fiscal reform agenda.
Oyedele noted the initiative aligned with the committee’s broader mission to simplify Nigeria’s tax">tax system by harmonizing multiple taxes and levies into a more transparent and efficient structure.
