In a move to deepen innovation in Nigeria’s insurance sector and harness the creativity of young Nigerians, Heirs Insurance Group has announced a call for applications for the maiden edition of the Heirs Insurance Hackathon.
In a move to deepen innovation in Nigeria’s insurance sector and harness the creativity of young Nigerians, Heirs Insurance Group has announced a call for applications for the maiden edition of the Heirs Insurance Hackathon, a technology-focused program designed to drive digital solutions across the insurance industry.
The hackathon is open exclusively to students of universities, polytechnics, and other tertiary institutions across the country.
Participants are expected to develop practical solutions to real-life challenges within the insurance value chain, including customer experience, claims processing, underwriting, distribution, data management, and overall operational efficiency.
Registration for the program will close on February 16, 2026, while winning teams will be unveiled at the Hackathon Grand Finale scheduled for April 2026. A total prize pool of ₦9 million has been earmarked for the top three teams.
According to the company, the initiative reflects Heirs Insurance Group’s strong commitment to youth empowerment, digital skills development, and inclusive innovation.
The hackathon will provide young Nigerians with a platform to apply emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence and digital tools, to pressing challenges in the financial services sector, while gaining exposure to industry experts, mentorship opportunities, and real business environments.
The program is being delivered in partnership with Redtech, the digital payment solutions arm of Heirs Holdings.
Redtech will provide technical support and assist in reviewing submitted solutions to ensure that ideas are assessed for creativity, technical feasibility, scalability, and real-world impact.
Speaking on the launch, the Chief Digital Officer of Heirs Insurance Group, Peace O. Philips
said the hackathon is aimed at equipping the next generation of innovators with the opportunity to turn ideas into solutions that can transform the insurance industry.
She said:
“Africa’s future will be built by young people who are given the chance to apply their ideas, creativity, and technology skills to real economic challenges. Through the Heirs Insurance Hackathon, we are creating a platform for students to engage meaningfully with the insurance industry, build impactful solutions, and contribute to a more efficient and inclusive financial system.”
